I was stir frying chicken for lunch and she stood on a stool next to me to see what I did. I could hear her licking her lips and hoping for a few pieces. I tried to ignore her to see what she did. She inched a bit closer to get the smell. Her fingers were fidgety and she couldn’t stand still. How long could I keep a straight face, I asked myself.
“Did you have lunch today, Sumayyah?” I asked her.
“No not yet,” she answered while keeping her eyes fixed on the chicken.
It was 3pm, and way passed her normal lunch time.
I plated chicken for her and added some chilli sauce on the side. She sat down and asked for a fork. She doesn’t like to eat with her fingers, a lady must always use cutlery when eating.
Her toes were dirty but her hair was brushed. She likes cosmetics and dressing up.
If it weren’t for my sustenance from God I probably couldn’t have afforded to feed the child. We were put on this planet for a reason and we were given the resources we have for a reason.
TO HELP THOSE AROUND US.
TO MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE EVEN IF IS FOR ONE OTHER LIVING CREATURE.
TO BRING A SMILE TO ANOTHER SOULS FACE – even if it be momentary.
It broke my heart to see her licking her fingers. I asked God to bless me with more sustenance so that I could reach out and provide even a few pieces of chicken to another human being.
Sometimes we all overlook what we have and focus on what we want. Greed is such a sly evil spirit that lurks within us and gets overlooked.
Sometimes also, over thinking and over explanations ruin a good thought. Look at her face. She is a soul. A soul which rests in all of us.
Whatever your religious beliefs may be, there is a spirit within us that serves the purpose of good. A good which can not be measured by any social scale. Shouldn’t we all connect with that good spirit more often?
